TAGDV Tamil School Bylaws

1. Eligibility criteria to become Tamil School Chief Coordinator

Tamil school Chief Coordinator acts as an extended member of the EC and works in collaboration with TAGDV-EC.

  • 1.1. Active TAGDV member for a minimum of 2 years.
  • 1.2. Has worked as a teacher in Tamil School for a minimum of 1 year and has contributed actively in Tamil School activities that include teaching, coordinating cultural events, and has served in the Tamil School committee.
  • 1.3. Recommended and endorsed by two current Tamil School parents.

2. Selection process

  • 2.1. Nomination by Tamil school committee members or by Tamil School teachers or by Tamil school parents or self.
  • 2.2. In case of self-nomination, written endorsement by Tamil School core committee is required.
  • 2.3. If we’ve two or more nominations then we shall have an election by casting paper ballots.
  • 2.4. If an election has to be held then we will have an election committee that will consist of 3 members (current Chief Coordinator of Tamil School, Tamil School liaison from TAGDV-EC and one active Tamil School parent)

3. Duration of Term

  • 2 Years. To maintain equal opportunity, outgoing Chief Coordinator has to wait for 2 more years if he/she wants to reapply for this position.
  • 3.1 Submission of nomination–April 15th to April 30th
  • 3.2 Announcing the core committee members by May 15th
  • 3.3 Taking office at Tamil school award ceremony that is usually around the first weekend in June.

4. Financial matters

Annual membership ($35/per family) is to be collected in September or at the time of enrollment from non-life members. This fee of $35 per family is valid from September of current year to December of the following year. The Tamil school will be required to submit a new members’ list along with their membership fee to the Treasurer of TAGDV, no later than Dec 31st of every year.

  • 4.1 For tax purposes, Tamil school treasurer should send a financial report twice a year to the treasurer and president of TAGDV by the last week of December and the first week of June.
  • 4.2 Any single transaction above $300, Tamil school should have written consent from Tamil school core committee.
  • 4.3 Any single transaction above $500 should be submitted to TAGDV- EC approval-at least 1 month before the transaction.
  • 4.4 Any fundraisers by Tamil school by actively soliciting TAGDV patrons or Tamil school parents should be discussed with TAGDV-EC.
  • 4.5 To keep $5000 as operational account and open a CD for remaining amount. With that interest (roughly $250) Tamil school core committee can nominate a student for outstanding achievement award.
  • 4.6 Names in the Tamil school bank account - TAGDV President, Tamil school Chief Coordinator and Tamil school Treasurer.

7. American Tamil Academy

  • 7.1. External coordinator Dr. Sivakumar. Internal coordinator Mrs. Alli Natesh will help to execute and track the process of accreditation.
  • 7.2. E-learning and time tracking need to be streamlined.
